Hi and welcome to another OddLearning post

Today we will share information on detox fruits and veggies, as you might already know; detox foods can help your body get rid of unwanted toxins our body accumulates over time, without even realizing. It’s important to include them in your diet for a healthier living style.

Detoxing your body is an important step when wanting to lose weight.

In the information we wrote we include the vitamins and extra benefits they each have, also we reveal the truths of some fruits and vegetables that do not have any proven detox properties yet you might have heard of them being the main ingredient of expensive detox supplements. Do not be deceived!

Lets start with the:

Fruits:

Acai Berries:

Acai Berries contain  vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, as well as aspartic acid and glutamic acid.

But there is no scientific evidence that acaí consumption affects body weight, promotes weight loss or has any positive health effect.

Acai berries are the fruit used the most in detox and weight loss supplements. Manufactures create very convincing campaigns so people buy them.

Theres has been reports of thousands of consumers having trouble stopping recurrent charges on their credit cards when they cancel free trials of acai-based products.

Even some web sites with the purpose to warn about açai-related scams are themselves perpetrating scams trying to sell you other “miracle” supplements.

So don’t fall for it, acai like any other fruit contains vitamins and it is loaded with antioxidants which are necessary for our health but besides that, it does not have miracle uses.

Apples:

Apples have a moderate content of dietary fiber which helps digestion and increases bowel movement, but they generally have a low content of essential nutrients.

As its relation to detoxifying your body, as mentioned above, eating apples or drinking apple juice increases bowel movement, preventing constipation and emptying your bowels.

There is also an intense natural remedy to get rid of kidney stones which involves 7 to 10 days of drinking only freshly made apple juice.

But there is a lot of controversy regarding that method, please do not try without more information!

Preliminary research is investigating whether nutrients and/or phytochemicals in apples may be preventive against the risk of some types of cancer, but there are not clear results yet.

So to summarize. Are apples good for detoxifying your body?

YES.

You can find them pretty much everywhere as they are one of the basic, (at times) most inexpensive fruits out there.

There is truth in the saying:

“One apple a day keeps the doctor away”

Lemons:

The juice of the lemon contains citric acid, which is loaded with antioxidants that are very beneficial for our hearts health.

Lemon oil may be used in aromatherapy but, it does not influence the human immune system (as claimed by manufactures), it does however, stimulate relaxation.

As apples, lemons help our body digest foods and obtain nutrients more efficiently.

As for having any detox properties, lemons have shown results boosting our liver’s ability to rid of harmful toxins.

So it’s not a bad idea to include lemons in your diet. 😉

Papaya:

Raw papaya pulp contains carbohydrates, negligible fat and protein and is a significant source of vitamin C and  folate.

As for its use as a detox fruit, papaya improves digestion which then provides efficient bowel movement, helping you get rid of the extra weight.

Start eating small portions as papaya is one if not, the most effective emptying your bowels in a couple of hours.

It also has anti-inflammatory properties which can increase blood circulation, helping your body function more efficiently.

In some parts of the world, papaya leaves are made into tea as a treatment for Malaria, but the mechanism is not understood and no treatment method based on these results has been scientifically proven.

Pineapples:

Raw pineapple is a rich source of vitamin C and manganese. Manganese is very important for our bone health as it prevents us from developing osteoporosis, not to mention it crucial for our enzyme functions.

It also contains Bromelain, a mixture of proteolytic enzymes.

Bromelain may be unsafe for some users, such as in pregnancy, allergies, or anticoagulation therapy.

The bromelain content of raw pineapple is responsible for the sore mouth feeling often experienced when eating it, due to the enzymes breaking down the proteins of sensitive tissues in the mouth.

Although there isn’t results correlated to pineapples and detox/weight loss, needless to say, Pineapples have amazing health benefits.

If you are not allergic to it try to include it on diet!

Plums:

Raw plums contain carbohydrates, protein, fat and vitamin C.

Prunes (Dehydrated Plums) are a rich source of vitamin K, several B vitamins and dietary minerals.

Prunes also contain dietary fiber, which provides laxative effects that contribute to the restoration of normal bowel function in the general population if consumed in quantities of at least 100 grams. –as quoted by Wikipedia.

Plums in both states have beneficial vitamins and proteins, but prunes are the ones related to detox and weight loss thanks to its laxative properties

If you need to purge your body, prunes are the way to go!

Pomegranate:

Pomegranate provides vitamin C, vitamin K and folate.

It’s a rich source of dietary fiber which is entirely contained in the edible seeds.

People who choose to discard the seeds forfeit nutritional benefits conveyed by the seed fiber and micronutrients.

Despite limited research data, manufacturers and marketers of pomegranate juice have liberally used “results” from preliminary research to promote products, so there is no clear evidence that pomegranate detoxifies and helps weight loss.

But overall, pomegranate has beneficial health properties.

Know let’s mention the Vegetables:

Asparagus:

Asparagus is low in calories and sodium.

It is a good source of vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, and zinc, and also a very good source of dietary fibre, protein, beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, rutin, niacin, folic acid, iron, phosphorus, potassium, copper, manganese, and selenium. (An incredible amount right??)

As well as chromium, a trace mineral that enhances the ability of insulin to transport glucose from the bloodstream into cells.

All of the vitamins mentioned above are extremely necessary for proper body functions.

Asparagus does not work as a detoxifier, but thanks to the concentration of vitamins, fiber, and more, its a must for anyone that plans to lose weight and eat healthier.

It is said that you can enhance its benefits by steaming it and eating it as soon as possible, but, there is no evidence behind it!

Beets:

Raw beetroot is high on carbohydrates, protein, and fat. The raw beetroot is a rich source of folate and a moderate source of manganese.

In preliminary research, beetroot juice reduced blood pressure in hypertensive animals and so may have an effect on mechanisms of cardiovascular disease.

More than being the detox, beetroot helps you in the process.

Tentative evidence has found that dietary nitrate supplementation such as from beets and other vegetables results in a small to moderate improvement in endurance exercise performance, thus is recommended to drink fresh beet juice before your workout.

Chard:

Chard Has rich content of vitamins A, K and C.

Also having significant content in raw chard are; vitamin E and dietary minerals such as magnesium, manganese, iron and Potassium, Carbohydrates, protein, fat and dietary fiber, Calcium, Phosphorus, Sodium, Zinc.

It is not directly related to detoxifying or promotes weight loss, but thanks to its high concentration of vitamins and minerals, it’s a must for anyone in the path to health.

No supplement can replace the many benefits fresh Chard contains, not to mention is cheaper!

Garlic:

Garlic contains vitamins B6 and C, and the dietary minerals manganese and phosphorus.

Because garlic might reduce platelet aggregation, people taking anticoagulant medication are cautioned about consuming garlic.

Platelet aggregation; The clumping together of platelets in the blood. Platelet aggregation is part of the sequence of events leading to the formation of a thrombus (clot).

Analysis have found decreased rates of stomach cancer associated with garlic intake, but cited confounding factors as limitations for interpreting these studies.

A 2014 meta-analysis of observational epidemiological studies found that garlic consumption was associated with a lower risk of stomach cancer in Korean people.

Again, since we are talking about whether garlic helps or body detox the answer is still unknown, but one thing is for sure, garlic has great benefits you shouldn’t pass.

Eat some garlic! (If you are not allergic)

Kale:

Raw kale contains a large amount of vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6, folate, and manganese.

It’s also a good source of thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, vitamin E and several dietary minerals, including iron, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus.

Kale has one of the highest levels of antioxidants of any plant you can eat, it can help reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol and studies have shown helps our liver rid of harmful toxins.

So yes, Kale detox properties.

Also when consuming kale, eating it raw is better than boiling it as this diminishes most of its nutrients, except for vitamin k!
