Released November 21/2014 for Wii U and February 12/2015 for 3DS, amiibos are a series of Nintendo character figurines that interact with multiple games on the Wii U, 3DS and now Nintendo Switch.
amiibos can store a character’s unique data, such as a build in a particular game or be used as a key to unlock costumes or features. They can evolve as they are used in games and as new data is saved.

(Note that while amiibo can unlock features in multiple games, an amiibo can only store one game’s data).

The downside to them is the limited amount produced.

Nintendo has explained that the company struggled to keep up with demand, it takes several months for amiibo to reach stores once production commences, including the special models that have to be done by hand.

But we can be hopeful as they mentioned the upcoming re-releases will be influenced by both fan and retail demand.

My favorite amiibo – The Legend of Zelda series.

Nintendo released amiibo for the past Zelda games on the 30th anniversary, including Link from Ocarina of Time, Toon Link and Zelda from Wind Waker and the very first Link (8-bit) from The Legend of Zelda. Now released as well Link from Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.

The newest is The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild series, which includes; Link (Archer), Link (Rider), Zelda, Bokoblin and Guardian.
